Mallards, the home of Mapp, rented to Lucia, is set in Lamb House in West Street. Lamb House has particular significance to the Mapp & Lucia novels as it was the home of the author Edward Frederic Benson.
Lamb House has also been resident to Benson’s brother, the author and academic A. C. Benson, the novelist Rumer Godden, the author and politician H. Montgomery Hyde, the publisher Sir Brian Batsford, the literary agent Graham Watson, the writers John Senior and Sarah Philo.
Built in 1722 by James Lamb, the property is now in the hands of the National Trust and can be visited (please follow the link below for more information with regards to opening times).
Channel 4, surprisingly, used Swans House in Watchbell Street for Mallards.
