Mapp & Lucia’s Rye

A guide to the locations of Tilling set in Rye

Welcome to Tilling: Rye in East Sussex

Thanks to author E. F. Benson, the East Sussex town of Rye will also forever be remembered as the fictional seaside town of “Tilling”. Through Benson’s Mapp and Lucia novels Tilling takes it name from the River Tillingham which flows through Rye to join up with the River Rother on it’s way towards Rye Bay.

Are you a fan of the Mapp and Lucia novels? Have you watched the BBC’s new series (script adapted by League of Gentlemen’s Steve Pemberton)? Do you want to visit Tilling and see for yourself the homes and haunts of Miss Elizabeth Mapp, Mrs Emmeline “Lucia” Lucas and all the other characters? Then here you’ll find exactly what you need to do just that! Take a tour of Tilling and see Mallards, Wasters and more for yourself!

This tour is a must for Mapp & Lucia fans from near and far and a very warm welcome awaits you here in Tilling.
